(* Cob = Bread Roll, Barm Cake etc. etc.)
This page will record the planning that is going into a tour around the UK and into France that Alan Woolley and Leigh Caudwell are hoping to take in the new Jabiru engined Thruster that Alan has ordered (Now collected by Alan, picture below). We have both really enjoyed touring in his last machine, T600N G-BYPH, (read about our trip to Popham and the Isle of Wight) Alan is the pilot, Leigh assists with navigation. Alan has been a qualified fixed wing pilot for a number of years, Leigh passed his GFT on Flexwings in Sept 2000.
This tour is designed to take us in an anti clockwise direction all around the mainland UK with a short excursion to France. We hope to sample the quality of the sausage cobs at as many airfields as possible.
We have divided the tour into daily 'legs', these are shown below but are purely the initial rough plans and may change as our needs and the weather dictates. However, if you feel that you would like to become involved in any of these legs feel free to get in touch, we would love to have other aircraft join us for the various parts. Nearer the date we shall publish our mobile phone numbers so that you can check our current location and fly alongside us. We are also looking for any help that may be available as far as accommodation is concerned. We shall be camping out when necessary but if anyone has any contact with cheap B & B's in the areas we are stopping we would like to know about it. We have not yet asked for any permission to visit any of the planned airfields so that is something else that may lead to change.
The dates on the daily legs are almost all flexible as are the destinations shown. We shall be watching the weather on a daily basis and making adjustments as we deem appropriate. The only dates that are fixed are the dates to fly in to Sandown for the Wight Party (Spamfield 2002), that has to be on Saturday 29th June 2002. Likewise the mass trip to France on Monday 1st July 2002.
15/04/2002. Following our latest planning and logistics meeting the route we initially envisaged has now changed. This is to make the various MATZ and ATZ's north of the Humber less of a problem to us, and us to them.
06/05/2002. A few minor changes, mainly to adjust where we plan to stop overnight..
25/05/2002. Final Flight planning has taken place and a rough plan of our intended route is shown on this MAP. We have now also set the dates for each leg. (Dates are still weather dependant).
25/08/2002. Its all over, the flight has taken place, did we acheive all our aims...read the story here.
