On this page I shall try to add pieces of software that I consider useful to the microlight pilot / student pilot.

Log Book
A fairly basic flight log book in MS EXCEL format. Keeps track of dual and solo hours and allows you to print part of the log to compare against instructors records. Sample data included.
Also includes worksheet to keep account of your useage of an aircraft where you are part of a syndicate and each member pays a set amount (£10 in this case) per hour flown, offset against anything you may have already paid for (fuel and oil etc). Sample data included.
PLUS a handy speed and distance ready reckoner which allows you to read off the time in minutes and decimal parts of a minute for any distance up to 60 miles against any speed.
I wrote this spreadsheet so I may be able to tweak it to individual needs if required. Just ask.

An excellent freeware program that already has info on many microlight, GA, civil and miltary airfields (amongst other data) held within it, add the places in your route, the program works out the bearing and distance for each leg of your route. A must have!

Microlight Sites This contains a file in wpt format suitable for uploading into a Garmin GPS via the excellent freeware programs WAYPOINT + AND NOW the Freeware Program EasyGPS. It contains over 300 of the microlight sites as featured in the two main books listing this info and any others that I have been informed about. I have included a RTF doc that has the elevations and telephone numbers of these locations where known. The information from this file was used to produce the Waypoint Databank found on this web site.

Motorway Junctions

This contains a file in wpt format suitable for uploading into a Garmin GPS via the excellent freeware program WAYPOINT + AND NOW the Freeware Program EasyGPS. It contains 508 motorway junctions. This file came originally from the internet but was not in a format that I could import into the GPS, hence the marathon retyping session. Also contains the info in a comma delimited file format for other program users to try.

Thanks to Tony Harrison-Smith for converting this file to Easy GPS format.

VFR Photographic Scenery for FS2002

Users of MS Flight Sim 2002 can now add photographic scenery to enhance their flight sim fun. I have used the data from the waypoint databank and identified airfields and farm strips within this 'real world'. These have all been saved as flights and can be downloaded from here, simply unpack the zip file into your myflights folder within FS2002. Perhaps make a copy of that folder first in case anything goes wrong.
